Telephone
This is going to be quick. There's nothing too interesting about my
phones. I have five POTS lines all home run to a 66 punchdown block in the
closet. Plus the connection to the alarm system with an RJ-31X jack. But I
wired the block a little differently.
Telco service comes in at the top. The next five or so positions connect
right to the telco and the sixth is wired to the RJ-31X jack. All of the
positions below that are wired after the jack, and this is where all of
the hose phones are wired to. So, if the alarm system seizes the phone
line only the lower positions are disconnected. I did this, mainly, so
that if I ever switch to DSL in the future I can connect the modem to one
of the upper positions and I don't have to worry about the alarm system
cutting off my access.
